Went to move into a left turn lane, tires did not straighten out until the steering wheel was 60 degrees to the right, after that the wheels were only a few degrees off, drifting left. Any diagnoses for the e28?

Make sure your steering box hasn’t tried to run away. If it’s still solidly mounted, maybe steering linkage, or some combination of control arm or tie rod end failure

Sounds like your steering’s messed up to me.

Fire up your car and turn your wheel far to the left. Get out and look at the wheels from the front. Do the same again but turn it far to the right. Look again. Now you know which wheel isn’t attached to the steering any more. Behind that wheel lies the answer.

Check tie rod ends and control arms/control arm bushings

I won’t need that book, one of my late christmas presents was a complete service manual for the 5 series BMWs in the 80's
